So, I text one of my best friends, whose mom died of MM last year. I was originally just wanting to ask him if I could dedicate my ride in her name. As we were communicating back and forth, he asked about being able to ride with us. I wasn't sure it was possible, since I thought I was the final spot on the team, but I told him to apply and see how it goes.
He got word this weekend that he was accepted as part of the team! I think it will be great being able to take on this challenge with a long-time friend. He and I live in different parts of the country, so it will be a long-distance training situation, but I am sure that it will increase both of our motivation.
Funny thing is that he doesn't have a road bike either!
To that note...My family and I were force to come home early from the mountains this weekend, due to a pending snow storm....While the skier in me was really disappointed I was driving AWAY from great snow, the rider in me saw a chance to do some bike shopping and get some time in on my spin bike.
I am leaning toward either a Specialized or Cannondale bike...Mostly because those are the mountain bikes I have always ridden, and I love them...
I am looking at the Cannondale Synapse 105 disk....I am also looking to get an indoor trainer for it, since the roads are still nasty around PA...specialized has the Roubaix, but I think I like the Cannondale a little better.
I also looked to see if it might be a better idea for me to get a cyclocross bike and just put slick tires on it for the road ride...My thought is that now I have an outdated mountain bike, a new Fat Tire Bike and I could add a cyclocross which could replace the mountain bike, and still be used on the road...I don't see myself turning into a road rider, especially with the small shoulders found in PA...
The journey continues though...after doing another hour on the spin bike, I think anything would be more efficient...
Any suggestions would be welcomed!
